I labeled about 50 plants and after a couple months the copper turned dark and it’s very hard to read the labels. I think it’s some kind of oxidation not rust. Disappointing.

Q: I'd like to reuse these for years for different crops. Has anyone removed permanent marker from the copper label?

Well, the first question is ... what marker did you plan on using. I used a black "Sharpie" brand marker and now, a few months later, the writing is gone. Since copper is not permeable I expect almost any market can be removed later with a solvent of some sort. If you covered the face of the label with clear packing tape I expect it would protect it for a season. I'm planning on redoing my labels with some black exterior enamel paint next spring... should hold up to the elements but even that can be removed from metal by a little scraping and or solvent.

Q: are these thick enough to be Stamped with a metal letter punch?

I think you could. They are nice and sturdy

Q: how about using a dremel brush to remove the old marker and shine up the copper // sounds ok // right ??

How often would you need to do that though? A lot of work.
